According to staff I spoke with last night, both Kirkpatrick's Pub locations - Ashburn Village in Ashburn and Dominion Valley Estates in Haymarket - are closing their doors for good tonight. After years of being a popular spot to eat, drink and socialize in Ashburn Village including poker nights and sports events, Kirkpatrick's is done.
The staff said that only a few days notice was given and the reason for shutting down is that the owner wasn't making enough money to stay afloat. It's unfortunate that the employees will have to scramble to find a new job on such short notice, but that's the restaurant business. (Years ago, I worked for a restaurant that just put chains on the front doors without giving their staff any notice whatsoever so a few days notice isn't that bad relatively speaking)
Sad to see Kirkpatrick's or any local business fail after so many years.
***UPDATE: Kirkpatrick's filed bankruptcy and is auctioning/selling off their assets for around $300K. If anyone is interested in buying up a restaurant at a deep discount, here's your chance.Btw, heard that rent there is around $10K per month for the space.

Indeed sad to see *any* business fail. Unfortunately, this trend will continue for the next while as the Wall Street crisis prompts families to cut spending. Going out to eat is fun but an incredibly wasteful expense -- I mean, $2 or $2.50 for a Coke? $18-$20 for a plate of food? Can't justify that when jobs are dropping and I can put the same meal together at home for a third of the price.

G - I agree that eating out is expensive. But that's not the reason Kirkpatrick's went under. Their business was doing well, but how and where the profits were spent is what did the place in.

Presidential Golf Club near Dulles 28 Center filed chapter 7 a couple weeks ago.
Most Loudoun small businesses are hanging in there though.

To Danilo: Kirkpatricks never had any profits to spend and were never doing "well" enough to even cover the overhead . . . done in by too much competition and let it go at that. They tried to cover the losses, but ran out of money.

Frank - If that's the case, I'm sorry to hear that.

KP's failed because I, the owner, ran it into the ground

Maybe they ran out of rats to serve?

M. Mouse - Now, now - let's play nice. Imagine being one of the employees who had as little as 1 hour notice that they were unemployed after their shift was done...

Does anyone know if anyone is going to reopen a bar in the dominion valley plaza? Also, does anyone know where Crystal went on to work?

That's Pretty Funny when my old email was used on a defunct account by a bitter X employee in Dec I mean real old. Actually Craig and I had both venues running at a profit but do to economic issues and past debt we could not regain control to stay afloat.

Sad to see. The Haymarket joint was fantastic when it first opened, food was great. Then the quality started going steadily downhill, so we stopped going there. Checked in once about a month before they closed, food was just bad. Was a beautiful place, sorry to see it go.

How is that possible since it appears Frankie Baby filed for personal bankruptcy according to public records?
Either Frank is lying in his post or his bankruptcy is a scam.. Which is it Frank Xavier Scalzo ??
